Madonna's Grease-y Look At Live Earth

Madonna300

Madonna looked and sounded fantastic at this weekend's Live Earth concert in the U.K. We loved the layered wavy haircut, the music, the body... Let's just hope her borrowed-from-Olivia-Newton-John-in-Grease look doesn't catch on. Black spandex with a cropped shirt is just not a good look for most.

Jessica Simpson's Chic On-Set Look

Jessica-Simpson-Red-Coat-05Saw this picture of Jessica Simpson from the Blonde Ambition movie set and just had to post it. We are loving this red-hot look - proof positive that a chic coat is the ultimate cold weather accessory. The ruffled trim paired with red lips, a red croc bag and red pumps is divine.

"Get Away" with Jeremiah

Jeremiah 13On Jeremiah's very first video shoot, he attempted to collaborate with his stylist Leena Lorraine, who has recently also worked with Kanye West. Jeremiah said he wanted to be comfortable while shooting, and wear t-shirts and jeans. Now typically, a stylist would abide by the requests of the artist but not this lady. Leena had her mind made up from the start, insisting he wear tailored jackets and clean colors: "White was Right" she said, especially in this case, because she understood Jeremiah's essence as a jazz/soul artist: a gentle man with class and grace.
Stephanie At Door (Retouch) 5 05 062

And Leena knows. Ever since she was fifteen she's been telling people what to wear, and telling...she does: "Ladies, do NOT wear jeans with your Thongs sticking out please. And if your shoes ain't right, YOU ain't right." Inspired by Donna Karen (a fellow New York working woman) she styled Jeremiah and his co-star Stephanie for his video "Get Away". Stephanie had a flowy, glowy look, wearing one of Leena's favorite products of the shoot: a green Mac Studio dress.

Both stars looked stunning and the video became a far cry from the typical bikini clad poolside ladies sipping marguerita's while the men smoke cigars and expose their bling bling. That wasn't right for Jeremiah (or Stephanie) says Leela who believes "ladies should be in skirts and heels and men in suits sometimes." Amen to that sister.

Some tips on what's coming up next according to Ms. Lorraine? For the women: Skinny tailored pants, short skirts and heels. For the men? You heard it! Suits.

Jeremiah2How about the looks created by makeup artist Dominique Andrese (who has worked with celebrity clients Tracy Morgan and Lisa Loeb)? Jeremiah was a simple subject, and only needed a little bit of Kiehl's moisturizer and coco lipbalm. His beautiful co-star Stephanie didn't need all that much glam, and Dominique kept it simple and clean by using bronzers, and La Mer cream (known to crystallize in the skin after application, and a heavy hitter amongst many celebs). In collaborating with artists, Dominique says she does have discussions with the director about the vision as well as with the artist. But once the shoot begins, back up! "It's my domain and I do whatever I want." You go girl!

Both Dominique and Leena voiced their opinion that anyone can get a rock star worthy look on a budget! How? Maybelline mascara, a good blush and a little lipgloss from the local pharmacy should cost no more than about $15. Leena suggests, for both women AND men stores like H&M, Banana Republic and Loehmanns (for great bargains). But never....oh no...never, leave your house without some stylin' rims (and we are talkin' CHANEL...at the very least..okaaay?), a fabulous pair of shoes and of course....mascara.

Bond Girl Bikini Style

Picture 1Figleaves.com has a great piece celebrating the bikini's 60th anniversary. Of course, you can't discuss the subject without highlighting the famous military-inspired bikini worn by Ursula Andress in the Bond film Dr. No. Andress herself even credits her success to this bikini. Picture 2-1

Forty years after Dr. No, Halle Berry paid homage to Andress in Die Another Day and designers continue to offer Bond-inspired suits every year.

The Devil Wears...Lipstick

C14176 MainThe devil not only wears Prada, she wears Dior, Tarte, Stila and Benefit, too. Nicki Ledermann, the makeup department head for the much-anticipated (at least around here) movie The Devil Wears Prada, dishes on sephora.com about the gorgeous looks she created for Andy, the lead character played by Anne Hathaway.

Nicki describes how she used makeup to subtly transform Andy from low-maintenance college girl to over-the-top fashionista. Her most sophisticated look includes hard eyeliner and bold red lips. C14176 Prod6The gorgeous red lips shown here were achieved by first applying Benefit Benetint on the lips and then dotting Dior Addict Lipstick in Positive Red 857 just in the center of the lips and then blending well with her fingers to create a matte, stained effect. Check out more devilish tips at sephora.com.

Doin' It...Shakira Style

Images 2006 05 Shakira-Video-1Let's get undressed. Have you ever wanted to know how an artist can look so damn hot in a music video (while we scrutinize ourselves when singing, shampoo bottle in hand, into the bathroom mirror)? The good news is that so much happens to get a performer ready for the camera: from what color nail polish they should put on their toes, to what type of panties they are (or aren't) wearing, to what actually makes it to the final cut.

Images 2006 05 Shakira-Video-2Style is a crucial element for a music video, because it makes the music come alive and pop right off the screen. Style can be exciting, revealing and inspiring: Let's be honest, how many of us have worn those plastic black Madonna bracelets all the way up our left arm, or brought in pictures of a hair color, a lipstick, a skirt...

Images 2006 05 Shakira-Video-3Shakira's Stylist Marjan Malakpour (who also styles Fiona Apple, My Chemical Romance and the White Stripes) chose this sexy orange skirt actually called the "Shakira Skirt" by Hansni. Hansni Kamdar is an LA based designer who has encompassed all her talent and experiences into a clothing line that thrives on a global edge. On choosing this skirt, Marjan and Shakira wanted to find something sexy that fit tightly around the waist (a must for Shakira), and that would radiate Shakira's own personal style and flair. Shakira's been known to buy what she likes in every single color and she ordered this skirt in magenta and green. So now you know...and next time...YOU'LL be Doin' it...Shakira Style!

Wanna Be McPhee?

KatherineOooh, how she wooed us all. Little Kat McPhee from Sherman Oaks Cali!. She started out the girl next door and grew up very quickly as the AI weeks passed by. Jeans and dresses, sexy slinky tops, lots and lots of pretty jewelry, and then that hair! Is it me, or did she shrink a couple of sizes over the ten week competition? Maybe it was just her gaining momentum and confidence: she looked better and better each week playing with color and a variety of styles.
Do you wanna know what DIDN'T change about McPhee? Her JEWELRY. Katherinelexilu Week after week, she chose the beautiful designs of LexiLu, adding that extra special touch to those ever changing outfits. And at the end of her run as the queen of the AI stage, she not only walked away a total winner, she left with a whole new wardrobe, new hair, numerous pairs of shoes and most importantly...a collection of earrings made for a STAR. I am SO jelly!!

visit lexilu.net to see some of Katharine's favorite styles.
