Red Carpet: Keri Russell in Balenciaga

KeriRussellTeal.jpg

Keri Russell glowed in a beautiful pale robin egg's blue Balenciaga day dress. We love, love, love it.

But since we can't afford anything designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere, we'll settle for this jumper by Karta, $282 at shopbop.com.

Camilla Belle: Hey, Who's Her Stylist?

CamillaBelle.jpg
Camilla Belle is in the new blockbuster, 10,000 B.C. and showed up to two of the film's premieres in knockout dresses (left: Carlos Miele; right: Gucci).

Both looks are styled to perfection and work incredibly well. Turns out, her mother is her stylist. Here's what Camilla had to say about fashion and her mom in an interview on latimesblogs.latimes.com.

"She took me to see the Chanel and Dior shows and  that's when I started really appreciating it as art - not as just shopping, which has nothing to do with it. It's just like me making a movie or someone painting something. It's just art. Now I love it. I love working with designers. Having relationships with them. I think it's really a fascinating world."

Marion Cotillard: From the Runway to the Red Carpet

MarionRunway.jpgIt's no secret we thought Marion Cotillard wore the most daring dress at this year's Oscars, a fashion risk we happen to think paid off. Now we're taking a look at the runway versions that inspired Marion's Jean Paul Gaultier gown.

Marion's exact dress was featured in Gaultier's Spring 2008 collection in green/gold (center), but there was also another interpretation of the fish-scale idea in a similar color to the one Marion wore (left). No doubt Marion communicated with the designer as to which look and color would suit her best (even her hair is styled similarly to how it was in Gaultier's runway show).

Elle est si jolie!

Red Carpet Face Off: Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson

NatalieScarlett.jpgContinuing our red carpet week, it was a formal affair at the London premiere of The Other Boleyn Girl where Natalie Portman wore Christian Lacroix and Scarlett Johansson opted for Stella McCartney.

Who looked best?

We think it's kind of a toss up. But the interesting thing is their postures. Natalie's shoulders are back, which lengthens her neck and gives her a very regal look. Scarlett's slouched shoulders make the bodice of her gown look ill-fitted.

Shoulders back Scarlett!

STANDOUTS ON THE RED CARPET

KeriAmyCameron.jpgEveryone went strapless: Keri Russell, who probably should have been nominated for her performance in Waitress, wore a beautifully-fitted mother-of-pearl organza gown by Nina Ricci. Amy Adams wore a stunning emerald green Proenza  Schouler gown, but what we loved most about her ensemble was her tiny gold bag. It would only fit a credit card and, actually, Amy admitted she had nothing in it. But its delicate gold mesh material and eagle clasp were striking. We want it. Lastly, Cameron Diaz looked very fresh in a barely blush Dior by John Galliano dress.

MarionGaultier.jpgAND THE WINNER IS....

Marion Cotillard was the night's big winner in Jean Paul Gaultier. After her win for Best Actress for her transcendent performance as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose, Marion had this to say:

"I'm totally overwhelmed with joy and sparklers and fireworks and everything which goes like bam, bam, bam, I just ate all those things."

We're going to go ahead and name her our Best Dressed of the Night, and not just because we love her style in general. Marion is always wearing cutting edge chic including Chanel and Chloe. She has fun with fashion and really gets it. A lot of style critics are questioning her choice of this mermaid-esque Gaultier gown, saying that it looked like fish scales.

So what.

It was very fashion forward of her and we applaud her for wearing a French designer (how patriotic), and we think the way it was styled with her hair down in loose curls and two delicate long gold chains was brilliant. Thank goodness she didn't wear a dark red lip stain.

MAD FOR MARCHESA

Several stars chose to wear Marchesa including Anne Hathaway, who called her dress "diaphanous chic" and a very pregnant Jessica Alba.

Both were solid color draped dresses with neckline embellishments. Both also wore their hair up and opted out of wearing a necklace. We loved both takes, although we preferred the purple feathers on Jessica's gown over the red rosettes on Anne's.

SAFE BUT NICE

Most stars chose dark, voluminous dresses with trends like ruffles and sheer fabric. Jennifer Garner wore Oscar de la Renta, Penelope Cruz wore Chanel Haute Couture (actually navy), Hilary Swank for Atelier Versace and Kristin Chenoweth wore Armani Prive. They all looked stunning.

Red Carpet: Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley wore a pale pink Valentino mermaid dress to the 2008 Baftas (British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards) in London, England. The awards show is like the Oscars of England and Keira was nominated for Best Leading Actress for her role in Atonement. Marion Cotillard took home the win for her performance in La Vie En Rose.

Katie Holmes in Lanvin = Perfection

Katie Holmes Lanvin Broad Contemporary Art

Katie Holmes wore a strapless Lanvin gown to the LACMA's Opening Celebration of the Broad Contemporary Art Museum (BCAM). Does it get any better? Her looks here is confident, elegant and romantic.

Happy Valentines Day!

Marion Cotillard's Fashion Sense is Still Impeccable

Marion Cotillard La Vie En Rose Chopard Chateau Marmont
She's on a roll and we can't wait to see what she wears on Oscar night.
Marion Cotillard wore a lovely floral print dress to a Chopard party in her honor. We're pretty sure this is one of those times when someone's hair looks messy in a photograph, but really it's styled to look very delicate and soft.

The Stars Go Blue

2008GrammysBlue.jpg Alicia Keys (our favorite of the night) wore a classic navy Armani, but mixed it up with a unique updo and a hot pink clutch. We also really liked the risk Nelly Furtado took with her bold necklace and large earrings and the royal blue color of her draped dress was stunning. We weren't crazy about Beyonce's dress, but we loved that she kept her hair simple and and soft. Rihanna wore Zac Posen.

Blondes Wear Purple

2008GrammysPurple.jpg Brooke Hogan, Natasha Bedingfield and Taylor Swift wore solid purple, but we admire Carrie Underwood's choice of a purple floral dress with a lilac box clutch.

Sandy Blondes Wear Yellow

2008GrammysYellow.jpg Fergie and Colbie Calliat wore almost identical yellow strapless dresses (different lengths) and Beyonce, who changed for an after party, also wore the sunny shade.

Definitely Not a Solid Color...

2008GrammysBaiLing.jpg Call us crazy, but one of our favorite looks of the night was from notorious bad-dresser, Bai Ling. Maybe it's because Fashion Week just finished up so we've gotten used to looking at more avant-garde designs, but we thought the peter pan collar, graphic print and whimsical silhouette was just playful enough to avoid being completely cuckoo. It kind of reminded us of Alice in Wonderland. Anyway, we had to post her photo since it's probably the only time she'll appear in Celebrity Dish...unless it's in the What Were They Thinking column.

Jessica Alba Rocks Maternity Wear

Jessica Alba The Eye

Jessica Alba's latest flick, The Eye, didn't do so hot at the box office last weekend, but we love the style she's been sporting on her publicity tour. Instead of trying to minimize her baby bump with layers of clothing or over-accessorizing (ahem, Rachel Roy), Jess's dresses are all looks we could picture her wearing regardless or being pregnant. We especially love her navy blue Narciso Rodriguez dress she wore to the film's premiere. Isn't she gorgeous?
