Vanity Fair totaled up Cindy McCain's outfit from the first night of the Republican convention.Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000-$25,000
Shoes, Taryn Rose: $475

That is a LOT of jewelry! Maybe it was loaned to her like how stars get jewelry loaned to them on Oscar night. She can't possibly own a pair of $280K earrings....can she?
They also estimated Laura Bush's look, which was also by Oscar de la Renta:
Laura Bush
Oscar de la Renta suit: $2,500
Stuart Weitzman heels: $325
Pearl stud earrings: $600-$1,500
Total: Between $3,425 and $4,325

Cindy and Laura were spotted wearing outfits worth thousands of dollars. And throw in the cost of Cindy’s jewelry and her outfit is worth more than many peoples house.
Cindy's father was a self made millionaire who left his fortune to his children. John McCain is NOT rich, but his wife is. AND she has a pre-nup agreement.
Cindy McCain has great style as does Laura Bush. Cindy's father was a self made millionaire, who left his fortunate to his children, like most fathers. Cindy's husband, John is NOT from money, and Cindy has a pre-nup agreement.
I have no problem with politicians or anyone having a lot of money and wearing it. Just don't then claim that your party is the real "party of the people," or make snide remarks about the liberal "elite."
That is someone else's estimate, not neccesarily what she paid or what they are actually worth. You can certainly get diamond earrings for less than that! (As well as pearls).
I find your remark to be "snide" in that you suggest Cindy McCain is pretending to be something that she isn't. The term "liberal elite" doesn't necessarily refer to liberals spending money on clothing. The term also refer to attitudes of *some* liberals about people who live in rural American or people who don't possess degrees from Ivy League institutions. Just because Cindy McCain inherited money from her father, who was a extremely successful entrepreneur, does not mean that she can't support Republican or conservative values. She has never pretended to be something she isn't. She's a wonderful role model. Cindy McCain is a generous, genuinely altruistic woman.
