Trendspotting

Nicolefloral.jpgNicole Richie is stepping out on the town a lot more lately and so far, her most glam events have included a very long floral dress. This look is popping up more and more with celebs....it might be a definite trend for summer.

We noticed Gisele Bundchen's airport style last month on stylebakeryteen.com and now Charlize Theron has caught our eye....and her ensemble is similar to Gisele's. So here are our conclusions for looking good when you take to the skies.

1. Wear a scarf.
2. Dark denim and flats can be casual and chic.
3. Black is your friend.
4. Keep your baggage simple and practical.

Padma Lakshmi, (host of Top Chef) wore really cute shoes the other day with really large flowers on them. We're starting to see a trend...

Diane Kruger wore Extreme Dior Gladiator Platforms by Dior to an event last week....the same shoes Sarah Jessica Parker wears in the upcoming Sex and the City movie.

Only, we spotted her in them way back in September!

They're available on eluxury.com for an insane $770.00.

HelenaGwen.jpgGwyneth Paltrow is the latest celebrity to dare to don super chunky black heels. We first reported on this trend back in September when Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted in them filming the Sex and the City movie and they've been gaining popularity since. Nicole Richie wore them and so did Natasha Bedingfield. Gwyneth's shoes are Givenchy, but we aren't really feeling them.....at all. In fact, we completely prefer Helena Christensen's ensemble in every way.

Rufflepeeptoe.jpgReal World Austin cast member, Johanna Botta (at the MTV Real World Awards) and Thandie Newton recently donned ruffled party-length dresses in varying shades of pink, paired with simple black peep toe heels. We think this combination is so pretty. You can achieve this sophisticated/girly look with any of these pieces from shopbop.com.

Ruffled tops:
1. Robert Rodriguez Tiered Ruffle Top, $286 at shopbop.com
2. Geren Ford Ruffle Neck Top, $246 at shopbop.com
3. Madison Marcus Ruffled Sleeve Dress, $280 at shopbop.com

Peep toe heels:

electricblue.jpgTala Ashe, Leighton Meester and Mariska Hargitay all recently wore electric blue. We can't help but to think of 80's spandex when we see this color, but it is a fantastic hue for brunettes. Just keep it simple....and a little less shiny.

orangefloral.jpgMaybe it was all the floral prints Balenciaga showed lately, but florals and chintz are back and more bold than ever. Mary-Kate Olsen, Eva Longoria and Jenna Dewan are all subscribers to this trend. We like Mary-Kate's Chloe print the best (sans the fur capelet of course) and all three of them were smart to pair their busy print dresses with solid-color clutches.

We're not really sure what to call this trend.

Natalie Portman (in Rodarte) and Marion Cotillard (in Chanel) both have dresses that are flanked with draped fabric.

We're sure there is a technical term for this type of garment but we sure don't know it. The fabric panels create an ethereal look and when they extend longer than the hemline of the dress (like Marion's), the effect is quite unusual and striking.

MarionChloe.jpg
We blogged about Marion Cotillard's floral dress last week and recently discovered it on the Chloe website, styled very differently from how Marion (our favorite style muse) chose to wear it. Which do you prefer? We think Marion's choker was a nice accessory choice, but would have liked it better if she'd left the clutch at home so she could show off the cute pockets on the dress.

By the way, you can purchase it at net-a-porter.com for $3,795, but we recommend some more budget-friendly options here.
