Maggie-Gyllenhaal-Sundance-Institute-Theatre-New-York-City-April-2013.jpgMaggie has managed to bring a bit of individuality to the red carpet over the years and her free-spirited style usually manifests in fashion-forward, slightly quirky ensembles. That wasn’t the case on Monday night, though, when the actress attended the 2013 Sundance Institute Theatre Program Benefit in New York City. Maggie’s multicolored paisley-printed Samuel semi-sheer dress by Isabel Marant somehow seemed to overwhelm the star with its billowy shape, balloon sleeves and midi length. A tassel-trimmed leather belt surprisingly did little to rein in the silk-gauze creation. She wrapped up her look with a studded pair of heels.

Although we really want to like this look because we’re admirers of the boho trend, we just can’t get behind Maggie’s rather lax take. We also can’t help feeling that if Rosie Huntington-Whiteley or Ginnifer Goodwin wore the piece out and about, we would be raving about the result since both stars would have fully committed to this potentially chic look.

It’s not often we get closet envy, but when we get it, it’s bad. Right now we envy actress Ginnifer Goodwin’s closet. On and off the red carpet she looks fab. She seems to have a particular knack for making edgy looks chic and chic looks edgy.

Above she shows off her style, and all the reasons we want her wardrobe. Left, Ginnifer attends the premiere of Something Borrowed in a Herve Leger by Max Azria bandage dress, center she graces the red carpet at a Vanity Fair party in a lace Erdem dress, and far right she attends a MOCA luncheon in skinny jeans, a Derek Lam top, Derek Lam for Tod’s jacket, shoes and handbag. Does this girl ever get it wrong?

red-carpet-2011-met-gala.jpg
Stylish stars celebrating the opening of the Met’s latest style exhibit, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty (a tribute to the late British designer) at the 2011 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala, surprised us with bright pops of color and chic silhouettes.

We love Ashley Greene, in Donna Karan, Ginnifer Goodwin, in a custom gown from TopShop, Jennifer Lopez, in Gucci and Ashley Olsen, in vintage Christian Dior. What’s best about these gowns? The fact that they are fashion-forward without going over-the-top.

Tell us: who were your favorites?

Ginnifer-Goodwin-Costume-Designers-Guild-Awards.jpg

Ginnifer Goodwin continues to stay on our fashion radar as she shows off her pretty pompadour we first peeped at the season 5 premiere of Big Love, and a chic dress by Roksanda Ilincic at the 13th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards. We love the dress with its folded detail on the skirt, and the way Ginnifer chose to let it be the focal point by pairing it with subtly chic accessories.

ginnifer-goodwin-pompadour.jpg

Ginnifer Goodwin dazzled us at Wednesday’s season 5 premiere of Big Love in a pretty pink Valentino dress and a stylish ‘do. We haven’t loved a pompadour more since we first laid eyes on Jason Priestly in Beverly Hills 90210. We love that Ginnifer’s pompadour is touchable and natural, and complements her soft makeup. She helps prove that short styles don’t have to limit hairstyle variety.

moca-la-black-lace-trend.jpg

Kate Bosworth, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Gwen Stefani showed off their stunning LBD’s at the MOCA Los Angeles Gala held Saturday evening. Kate and Ginnifer gave a little lace action with their peek-a-boo gowns, while Gwen showed off her gams in a swingy minidress with an embellished mesh top. We love the way these dresses are elegant and sexy.

We’re so used to long gowns at the red carpet that we relish the times that call for more casual looks. The People’s Choice Awards is just the awards show to showcase short sexy frocks, and the celebs above did not disappoint.

Carrie Underwood dazzled us with her Christian Cota dress and Rock & Republic sandals, while Dania Ramirez wooed us with her fuchsia cocktail dress with an ornate twisted bodice. Ginnfer Goodwin surprised us with a frilly black and white dress, and Diane Kruger kept it sleek and simple in a Herve Leger by Max Azria bandage dress and Emilio Pucci gladiator sandals.

All in all the looks were short, sweet, and sassy!

Emmys09beauty.jpgSimple was the way to go at Sunday night’s Emmys. The main trends we noticed were the simple, “bare” look, nude or rose-colored lips and dewy complexions. Kudos to Blake Lively, Christina Hendricks, Julie Benz, Toni Collette, Ginnifer Goodwin and Jessica Lange. So much makeup inspiration!!
Not quite as exciting as the Oscars or SAG Awards, but the red carpet at the Primetime Emmys are always fun because the looks are wearable and the trends are usually easy to pull off in our everyday look. Here are our picks for best dressed and best trends of the night.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
the solid, rich colors that Julia Louis Dreyfuss, Mila Kunis and Ginnifer Goodwin wore on the carpet. We also like the unconventional sweetheart necklines each dress had.

Kristen Chenoweth (who won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series), Sandra Oh and Mariska Hargitay all played it safe, but still spectacular, in one of the biggest trends of the last few red carpet seasons: metallics.

Romantic looks were also everywhere last night…Olivia Wilde, Kate Walsh and Drew Barrymore have this look nailed down.

Goodwinmarcjacobs.jpgWearing a dress from Marc Jacobs’ Resort collection, Ginnifer Goodwin looks a little severe in this photo, but we like the overall look. She didn’t change much; she kept the dress as is and even slicked back her hair just like the model. She should have worn those shoes though! They are a-mazing.

GinniferH&M.jpgGinnifer Goodwin stepped out the other night wearing a dress from the Matthew Williamson for H&M capsule collection. Thoughts? We like that she ditched the belt, but we prefer the shoes on the model. And smile Ginnifer! She was pouting in all the photos…maybe she wasn’t feeling the look.

AmberRose.jpgThere was some sort of tribute going on for Yves Saint Laurent at the Metropolitan Opera House 125th Anniversary Gala in New York City as most of the attendees wore YSL (and his name was everywhere).

We happen to think that Kanye’s latest squeeze, Amber Rose, is crazy beautiful. She was there, along with Ginnifer Goodwin, Brooke Shields and Diane Kruger.
GinniferJennifer.jpgWe thought we’d create more wearable versions of the red carpet looks worn by the stars of He’s Just Not That Into You, Gennifer Goodwin and Jennifer Connelly.

NotIntoYou.jpgWho isn’t in this movie?

Ginnifer Goodwin wore head-to-toe Bottega Veneta (which seems a bit safe, but if we could wear head-to-toe Bottega Veneta, we would too). Drew Barrymore had a bit of a fashion mistep (we tried to find a flattering angle of this dress, but there wasn’t one). It just wasn’t the right dress for Drew - remember how amazing she looked at the Golden Globes?

Scarlet Johansson and Jennifer Aniston were total opposites (feminine and floral vs. masculine and black) and Jennifer Connelly wowed in green Balmain.

zigzag.jpgGinnifer Goodwin’s Camilla and Marc dress that she wore to a NYC screening of He’s Just Not That Into You is super cool. Ruffles have been a trend for a while now, but we’re loving this new zig-zagy style ruffle.

LaurenGinnifer.jpgGinnifer Goodwin and Lauren Conrad both wore little black skirts with black tights and pointy-toe heels to a recent Dolce and Gabbana event. Lauren accessorized with dark nail polish and a black bow headband while Ginnifer piled on gold chains and a gold pump. So who wore it best? We are in love with Ginnifer’s layered necklaces, but wish she would have stuck with a darker shoe like Lauren’s simple black (or are they dark purple?) pair.
GinniferGoodwin.jpgWe love bow details and this mandarin bow collar on Ginnifer Goodwin’s sleeveless shirtdress is no exception. Get the look with the Eton Frock, $288 at anthropologie.com
