Claire Danes

There’s really only one problem with the gray dress Claire Danes wore to the 67th Annual Motion Picture Club Awards and Installation Luncheon in New York City: the proportion of the sleeves.

Imagine if they were shorter and did not come down to the same level as the waistband….the dress would have really worked. As it is, she looks too top heavy.

She might have saved the look if she had paired the dress with a more substantial shoe. Instead, her barely-there sandal pump makes it looks like a huge dress on a tiny person. It’s too bad, the ombre coloration of the dress (a gradual change from one color to another) is beautifully restrained.

Jennifer Lopez Reese Witherspoon Hilary Swank Angelina Jolie

Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Hilary Swank and Angelina Jolie were all spotted recently rocking solid color ensembles. Is it because it’s slimming? Or ultra-easy to put together in the morning? Did their stylists take the day off? What gives??

Wearing only one color may seem pretty simple, but it’s actually more complex than, say, slipping on a cocktail dress and calling it a day.

The trick to pulling this kind of look off is to mix and match materials…not color. Black is an obvious choice because there aren’t really a lot of different shades of black like there are with colors like green or blue. The key to wearing all black without looking like you’re on your way to a funeral is to add some sheen to the look. Jennifer added rich leather leggings and a patent belt and Hilary’s blazer lapels are satin. This look could also work with a dark eggplant purple or navy blue. And take a tip from Angelina (the only one brave enough to wear all-white) and wear one accessory in a different tone like your shoes or bag. Also, don’t try to find matching jewelry, just stick to either all silver or all gold.

Beyonce

The last time we wrote about Beyonce, it was a What Were They Thinking? entry, but we don’t have anything bad to say about this winning look, except that it might be a little see-through. Beyonce introduced the new Samsung B phone last week and we thought her look was classy enough to copy.

We chose a similar Rachel Pally wrap dress in blue and paired it with a different kind of animal-print shoe: snake skin. We love Beyonce’s leopard print T-strap peep toes (they look great with her green dress), but snakeskin looks better with blue. Since we couldn’t find a wrap dress with the same medallion detail as Beyonce’s, we added a chunky bracelet to our look that incorporates the same element (and works perfectly since our dress has mid-length Dolman sleeves).

If Jennifer Lopez is trying to avoid baby rumors…this outfit is not the way to go.

Jennifer was seen wearing horizontal prison stripes at a recent taping of MTV’s TRL in New York City. She has yet to comment on any baby whisperings, despite the fact that numerous media sources claim she’s pregnant with twins. Maybe she’s thinking of pulling a Christina Aguilera….who is obviously pregnant (and was spotted shopping for baby items last week) but will not confirm her pregnancy.

Is it a celebrity’s prerogative to keep her pregnancy private? Or is there a point where it becomes silly to not address it?

When you think of Autumnal colors, generally you think of deep reds, rust reds, burnt oranges, emerald greens and navy blues. But the stars are throwing caution to the wind and stepping out in fruity, fun berry shades. Jennifer Garner gets in on the trend twice wearing raspberry red and pretty plum, which Catherine Zeta-Jones also favors. Rachel Bilson likes bubblegum pink, Natalie Portman goes with blush pink while Beyonce wears a classic berry color. Get the look for yourself with these budget-friendly pieces.
