Laura Linney

Just like the first snowfall of the season….Laura Linney has given us the first “winter white” spotting of the year. Linney looked near perfect at the 43rd Chicago Intetnational Film Festival. Her jacket fits her like a glove and her pants are chic and in keeping with the wide-leg trend that is so right now.

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts wore her best carpet bag dress last week to the opening gala for the BFI London Film Festival. This outfit just doesn’t look good. The ankle booties might have looked smart in black and the dress could have worked with a simple pump, but together they’re just confusing.

Claire Danes

There’s really only one problem with the gray dress Claire Danes wore to the 67th Annual Motion Picture Club Awards and Installation Luncheon in New York City: the proportion of the sleeves.

Imagine if they were shorter and did not come down to the same level as the waistband….the dress would have really worked. As it is, she looks too top heavy.

She might have saved the look if she had paired the dress with a more substantial shoe. Instead, her barely-there sandal pump makes it looks like a huge dress on a tiny person. It’s too bad, the ombre coloration of the dress (a gradual change from one color to another) is beautifully restrained.

Victoria Beckham Dita Von Teese Chanel

Victoria Beckham and Dita Von Teese were all smiles (at least, we think they’re smiling) at the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week. The fashionable duo are like a before and after campaign for sunscreen. Honestly, they’re like a pair of dolls! We imagine the odd couple’s conversation went something like this:

Posh: “Dita, your kabuki-style makeup is totally major! I love your 1940-ish hairdo.”

Dita: “And I love your futuristic alien soccer mom style!”

Posh: “Let’s sit together at the Chanel show and confuse people. It will be totally major.”

Only kidding.

Cate Blanchett Fearne Cotton Natalie Portman

Let’s work from right to left. First, Natalie Portman looks amazing at the West Coast premiere of The Darjeeling Limited in Beverly Hills, CA. How would you describe the color of her satin dress? Tomato red? Burnt orange? Whatever it is, we’re digging it. Her tiny frame is perfectly suited for pulling off this layered ruffle. It’s a definite red carpet risk, but she doesn’t look like she’s trying too hard due to the outfit’s simple black accessories and her ever-confident smile.

In the middle, we have Fearne Cotton at the London premiere of Stardust. To be honest, we actually aren’t too familiar with Fearne, but those turquoise shoes grabbed our attention straight away. Fearne chose bold colors, but they’re colors that work together and so, altogether, the outfit works. It’s young and fun, and those shoes are 100% unique, but there’s certainly nothing classic about this look.

And now Cate Blanchett… Cate is usually impeccable on the red carpet, but at the Los Angeles premiere of her new movie, Elizabeth The Golden Age, she turned up wearing a 4-person turquoise tent. Huh? Cate’s turquoise “dress” confused us as much as Fearne’s turquoise heels, but not in a happy surprise kind of way. No, it’s more of a ‘how could you do it?’ kind of way. We don’t get it. We don’t like it. It hurts our eyes.
