We’ve seen Dakota Fanning’s star and style rise in the last year. Her looks from BCBG and Valentino paired with her mile long legs and soft blowouts have definitely grabbed our attention. We assumed her looks would only get better with time. That’s when we saw the look above.

Either Dakota has found a new way of layering, or is confused about the weather, because this look is all over the place. She has a long sleeve button down shirt rolled up to a quarter length and open at the bottom as though she’s warm, but  then has a scarf wrapped around her neck. Similarly, she is wearing what appears to be cotton shorts (maybe even gym shorts) that she has paired with tights underneath.Clearly, the tights or leggings are merely ornamental and not meant to keep her legs warm due to their shredded nature.

If her look, complete with combat boots and a tiara, is meant to make her look like a pint size Courtney Love:  she’s succeeded. The vibe screams sloppy not comfort. With a look this bad we may have to wait for her red carpet looks and temporarily turn a blind eye to her street style.

Olivia Williams and Kate Winslet both wore long black dresses with cut-outs to the 2010 BAFTA Awards Sunday night in London. Kate (right) wore a chic and sophisticated Stella McCartney dress with lace insets at the waist. Olivia wore a Catherine Walker dress with sheer cutouts from her toes to her chest, including an overexposed rear end. Olivia’s dress reminds us a bit of Elizabeth Hurley’s famous safety pin Oscar dress, but with less winning results.

Jessica Alba attended the London premiere of the Valentine’s Day movie wearing a Prada puffball dress, black tights and electric blue lace-up peep-toe Miu Miu boots. I am sure this look was intended to be fashion forward, perhaps a little avant-garde, but it is just not working for me. The colors don’t look good together and I would prefer to see this dress with sexy strappy sandals or pumps.

What do you think, fashion forward or fashion failure?

We must admit that people always have something to say about what Britney Spears says, wears, or does and usually we try to defend her. Sadly, we couldn’t let her look for Sunday’s Grammy Awards go.

While we admit that she’s looked great as of late (especially on tour for Circus), this look was not her best. We’re sure this Dolce & Gabanna long sleeve lace dress and bodysuit is meant to be fashion forward, but instead comes off looking like a last minute disaster. We can’t really tell whether it wants to be viewed as a dress or as separates.

Although it may have looked boring we would have much preferred the black bodysuit be a black slip that came down at least to her mid thigh. From the waist up, including her luscious locks and makeup , we love the look. From the waist down, including her studded pumps (which seem way too busy for her look), we are not a fan.

We love that Whitney Port takes fashion risks. We watched her on The Hills work fashion-forward looks in the offices of Teen Vogue and People’s Revolution, and loved her originality and bohemian style.

Still, there is a big difference between being fashion-forward and wearing a fashion no-no. Although we love the re-emergence of the jumpsuit, we must admit we don’t like this one chosen by Whitney for a recent night out at Voyeur Nightclub. Not only is the color drab, but the length and fit isn’t great either. We’d love to see Whit’s next jumpsuit be a happier color or print paired with heels instead of embellished oxfords.
