Naomi Watts wore her best carpet bag dress last week to the opening gala for the BFI London Film Festival. This outfit just doesn’t look good. The ankle booties might have looked smart in black and the dress could have worked with a simple pump, but together they’re just confusing.

Katie Holmes recently wore a voluminous trench coat in Paris and we loved it! We can’t tell if it is a trench coat dress or just a very full coat, but it looks so comfortable. For all we know, Kate could have a sweatshirt and a pair of boxer shorts on under her trench. Lily Allen usually steps out in a feminine ’50s style frock with loose-fitting sneakers and while it was always a major fashion don’t, it did make her stand out in a crowd. There’s really only one problem with the gray dress Claire Danes wore to the 67th Annual Motion Picture Club Awards and Installation Luncheon in New York City: the proportion of the sleeves.
Imagine if they were shorter and did not come down to the same level as the waistband….the dress would have really worked. As it is, she looks too top heavy.
She might have saved the look if she had paired the dress with a more substantial shoe. Instead, her barely-there sandal pump makes it looks like a huge dress on a tiny person. It’s too bad, the ombre coloration of the dress (a gradual change from one color to another) is beautifully restrained.
