DIY beauty: turn loose pigments into cream shadows with your own mixing medium

photo by muffet on flickr-1.jpgIf you are avoiding loose pigments because you don’t quite know what to do with them, this is a simple way to turn those gorgeous powders into useable eye shadows and liners.

What you’ll need:
1 cup distilled water
1 bottle liquid glycerin
small funnel
clean container for storage
To get started, decide how much mixing medium you will need. A small amount will be fine for most people. Make a small batch and see if you use it up quickly. To measure out your ingredients, in a small bowl combine 3 parts distilled water to one part liquid glycerin. An easy to way to remember this is 3/4 teaspoon water and 1/4 teaspoon glycerin. Stir well and use the funnel to pour the mixture into your storage container.
To use the mixing medium, dip your brush into the mixture and then dip into loose pigment before applying. Or, in a separate dish, combine a drop of medium with powdered pigment. Combine and apply with a makeup brush.
