Are your health supplements a waste of money? Find out which ones really work

It was big news last month when an article published in the Annals of Internal Medicine stated that using supplements and multivitamins to prevent chronic conditions is a waste of money. Naturally, the Internet exploded in defense of supplements with claims that they offer a wide range of benefits, including increasing energy and stress tolerance, improving pregnancy outcomes, decreasing infection rates, slowing bone loss, and improving cognitive function in schoolchildren.

So who are we to believe? io9.com published a brilliant chart by David McCandless that originally appeared on Information is Beautiful which clearly visualizes the supplements that are helpful, based on scientific studies, and which ones are best left on the shelves.
