Getaway Chic: What To Pack For A Weekend In The City
Headed to the shore this weekend? No need to pack your entire closet, we've boiled it down to the bare essentials you'll need to get through it in style. And the best part? It all fits into a weekend bag.
The strategy:
- Choose pieces that can be worn multiple ways, depending on your needs
- Select a base color (we chose white) and add pops of color and printed pieces
- Look for fabrics that don't wrinkle
- Roll your clothes when packing instead of folding, you'll have fewer creases when you arrive
The list:
2 swimsuits - Choose your most flattering styles. We selected a bikini and a one piece for variety.
1 tunic to wear as a beach cover up or paired with shorts and pants.
2 dresses that can be worn day or night, or as a swimsuit cover up. We chose a maxi dress and a short shift for variety.
1 pair of cropped or ankle length pants or jeans + 1 pair of shorts. These can be worn with any of the tops you've packed, including the tunic and cardigan.
3 tops - Whether sleeveless or short sleeved, they should work with your pants and shorts as well as coordinate with your cardigan.
1 cardigan to layer over your dresses and tops if it's chilly.
1 lightweight cotton or linen scarf to wear as a scarf, a wrap, or even as a sarong over a swimsuit.
1 pair of flat sandals that can be worn on or off the beach. We chose a metallic pair that coordinates will all of our pieces, so we only need to pack one pair of shoes.
1 canvas tote to bring to the beach or carry during the day. Fold it up flat or roll it when packing.
1 clutch to carry at night.
Colorful bangles are all the jewelry you need for a weekend at the shore. Add a pair of earrings if you can't go without.
1 pair of sunglasses - a must.
