Last week, we brought you our 11 best fashion tips ever. And, of course, it got us thinking about our best beauty tips ever, too! Over the years, we’ve given tons of beauty advice and tips to help women look (and feel) their best. Here are 11 of our best beauty tips of all time.
1) Have fun with your nail polish.
If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that nails are the new accessory. Whether you’re choosing a bold color you’ve never worn before, experimenting with nail art or just trying out new and different formulas (like rubber or leather), it’s a relatively inexpensive way to express yourself. Plus, it’s easy to change on a whim!
2) Just have fun in general.
Really, makeup is just such a great way to express yourself. Want to try purple eyeshadow? Go for it. Interested in the Pantone color of the year? Have a ball. Intrigued by the looks seen on the runways during Fashion Week? Try them out! Multiple makeup artists and hairstylists have given us this one sound piece of advice: Beauty is supposed to be fun.
3) Get inspired by celebrity beauty looks.
The onslaught of paparazzi photos and red carpet looks can at times be overwhelming, but it can also lead to new ideas for hairstyles, makeup looks, nail art and more! We’ve been known to take a picture of a celebrity in when we’re getting a haircut–and you can even take one to a makeup counter if you’re looking for something specific!
4) Some of the best beauty products don’t cost a fortune.
The idea that all of the best products out there cost a ton of money? Not true. Some of our favorite cleansers, mascaras and more come straight from the drugstore–and cost under $10! And while we recommend trying different products to figure out which one is right for you, if you’re on a budget, chances are you can still look and feel gorgeous 100 percent of the time.
5) Skincare is everything. EVERYTHING.
Great beauty starts with great skin. Your face is a canvas, and don’t you want it to be as soft, smooth and perfect as possible? Make sure you treat it right, whether that’s getting facials, wearing night cream, choosing an eye cream … you get the picture.
6) Sometimes, mascara is all you need.
If you only have two extra minutes in the morning, apply a coat of mascara. Every makeup brand has at least one, if not several formulas, to choose from–and they do everything from curl to lengthen to volumize. Our favorites range from Maybelline to Dior, and we can’t recommend the idea of coating your lashes strongly enough!
7) Always take off your makeup. Even if you just use cleansing wipes.
We know, we know–sometimes, taking off your makeup at the end of a long day just seems interminable. Well, it’s just so much better for your skin if it can breathe while you sleep–not to mention it cuts down on eye infections and pimples! If you’re strapped for time, or you just can’t face standing in front of the sink, at least reach for a package of cleansing wipes. Your skin will thank you.
8) Traveling with your beauty products doesn’t have to be a nightmare.
We’ve covered this topic fairly extensively (check here and here for some of our favorite travel-ready products). From the aforementioned cleansing wipes (not only great when you’re lazy but great when you don’t want to pack a full-sized cleanser!) to dry shampoo and even nail polish remover, so many brands have products that are just perfect for that quart-sized plastic bag.
9) Sunscreen is NOT overrated.
Another topic that really gets us going is sun protection. (Just a couple of examples: here and here.) You should always, always make sure you’re wearing SPF when you’re outside, regardless of whether you’re hitting the beach or just walking to work. We’ve rounded up tons of fabulous SPF products over the years, from moisturizers and BB creams to facial sunscreens and even lip balms.
10) Some of your favorite beauty products do double duty.
Run in your tights? Check. Stain in your clothing? Double check. You’d be surprised at how many of your beauty products do more than just what you think they do!
11) Get your beauty sleep. Always.
Good skin health starts with a good night of sleep. So before you settle down for those eight hours, make sure you’re doing everything you can to ensure you’ll look and feel your best in the morning!
