When it comes to eye makeup, shape matters: Smashbox Full Exposure palette

Chances are, you’ve been applying your eye makeup the same way for years. Sure, sometimes you might change it up with a smokey eye, or a little eyeliner flick for drama, but I’ll bet you never took your eye shape into account when fine tuning your technique. That’s the premise behind the new Smashbox Full Exposure palette. A generously sized palette full of 14 universally awesome neutrals in both matte and shimmer, it also includes a breakthrough eye shape chart that helps you discover your most gorgeous look for day, evening and a defined look. Complementing the set is a unique double-ended brush — one side for shimmer, the other for matte — and a Full Exposure mascara deluxe sample.

To find the best look for your eyes, first take the step-by-step Eye-Q test to determine your eye shape. You’ll find out whether your eyes are almond, round, upturned, downturned, monolid or hooded. Then, you can begin to create your best looks using the palette. Just like you dress to flatter your body shape, makeup should be applied based on your eye shape to get your most gorgeous, enhanced eyes. A look that’s amazing on a friend, may not work for you.

After taking the test, I found that I have almond-shaped eyes. I consulted the chart and decided to try the first of the three available looks: the day look. Since this is likely the technique I will use most, I was excited to try it. The three easy steps for my ideal day look are:

  1. Sweep a light shade across entire lid.
  2. To add depth and make eyes pop, apply a medium shade to outer corner.
  3. Using a dark shade, line upper and lower lashlines.

A diagram is included which takes all the guesswork out of creating the look. I used only the matte shades since I wanted a natural daytime look. The shades are super wearable and velvety-smooth, with a wide range of nudes, medium and dark browns and black. The included brush is specially designed to work with the palette with a fluffy side for blending mattes and a flat-side for laying down shimmers without sparkle overload. I finished off the look with a coat of the included mascara. Check out my final look!

What do you think? I was really pleased with the natural look which enhances my eye shape. I don’t typically line both my upper and lower lashlines and I was really pleased with the result! Over the next few weeks, I’ll post some selfies to Instagram as I try out my best night look and my best defined look.
