Actress Shailene Woodley is well known for her dedication to eco-living and in this month’s InStyle, she shares recipes for her favorite at-home eco-beauty fixes. Here are a few choice tips:

For Lip Stain
Shailene rubs roasted beets on her lips for lip color. “I eat them after!” she says. Also try it with raw cherries and pomegranates.

For Eyeshadow
A greens powder, such as spirulina, doubles as an eyeshadow. “I source mine from Longevity Warehouse—when wet, it works as a liner.”

For Toothpaste
Shailene mixes a little bit of safe clay, like bentonite, with a drop or two of coconut water and peppermint essential oil for a DIY toothpaste. When you’re done brushing, you can actually swallow the toothpaste “to get a dose of minerals.”

For Hair
One tablespoon of coconut or olive oil conditions Shailene’s thick hair. “It will leave your hair oily if you use too much, so start with small quantities to find out how much works best for your hair type.”

For Deodorant
“A few tablespoons each of baking soda, coconut oil and arrowroot powder, plus a drop of lavender or sage oil keeps you fresh.”

We’re not sure we’re ready to give up our store-bought products just yet, but we certainly admire her dedication to clean living!
