The 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards: The Highs and Lows on the Red Carpet

You should know by now that awards shows really have nothing to do with talent for us. Yes, it’s nice to know who wins. But what we really care about are the winners and losers on the red carpet! And the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards this past Sunday offered up plenty of fodder, both good and bad. Check out who shone … and who fell short of a glisten.

Julianne Hough 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgWhile we wish that singer Julianne Hough would have done something a bit more interesting with her locks — this is a country music awards show, after all! — we’re totally loving her makeup. The peach blush gives her a fresh, glowy look, while the creamy coral lip adds the perfect finishing touch.

LeAnn Rimes 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgLeAnn Rimes honestly can do no wrong in our book. While her personal life might be a bit of a mess right now, we’re so loving her porcelain skin paired with the season’s big trend — the hot pink lip. Not to mention the fact that she coordinated her lips to her nail polish! The hue definitely spiced up her LBD and made her one to watch on the red carpet.

Kellie Pickler 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgThere’s just something that doesn’t feel right about Kellie Pickler’s whole look. Maybe it’s the blowout, which we really wish would have been something different than just stick straight and hanging there. Maybe it’s the too pale lip paired with the gold dress that looks as though she might burst free at any second. Maybe it’s the strange orangeish gold color lining her eyes. But we just aren’t on board with it.

Jennifer Love Hewitt 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgSometimes Jennifer Love Hewitt makes a misstep on the red carpet … but not at this event! Her curly updo with face framing tendrils add just the right amount of sophistication to heavily lined eyes, glowing skin and glossy pink lips. And we’re loving her super long lashes!

Miley Cyrus 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgWhile we do like the look Miley Cyrus is sporting here, we have to admit we’re not inspired. We’ve seen the sideswept ponytail, kohl-rimmed eyes and glossy peach pout a few times from her now. And is it just us, or does it seem like recently her pout looks a whole lot perkier thanks to collagen enhancements?

Nicole Kidman 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgWe’re honestly not sure what to think of Nicole Kidman here. Her hair seems a bit too wispy, flyaway and not quite done. And her makeup, while flawless, doesn’t seem to compliment her complexion — the shade of pink is just too matte and too dark. We would have liked to see a bit more color to juxtapose the sparkly black of her gown.

Carrie Underwood 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgWe get it, Carrie Underwood. You’re a fan of side-swept ponytails, smoky eyes with out-to-there lashes, peach lipgloss and a glowing complexion. And yes, you look beautiful. But we would love to see something different from you! The Grecian gown is just begging for a bit more inspiration.

Reba McEntire 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgWe are honestly, completely, 100 percent in love with Reba McEntire here. The purple gown and earrings offset her fiery red hair beautifully, and we love how the shimmery eyeshadow and taupeish coral lip just add the perfect finishing touches. We’d expect nothing less from a country music icon!

Taylor Swift 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.jpgLast but not least, Miss Taylor Swift. Normally we’re not a fan of matchy matchy lipstick to outfits. But in this case, the deep red lip totally works with her sculptural crimson gown. Not to mention her curls are pinned to perfection and her eyes are lined just right!
