Capes have been a part of fashion and superhero costumes for quite some time, but several stars have started to hit the red carpet in the crisp creations. Everyone from Lizzy Caplan to Toni Collette and Brooke Shields have opted for capes at recent high-profile events. Mary Elizabeth Winstead attended the Los Angeles premiere of her film A.C.O.D. just last week in an embellished green cape top and an equally embellished skirt, both from Andrew Gn‘s Spring 2013 collection. The actress wrapped up the look with a tan Kotur clutch and metallic Jimmy Choo Anouk pumps. Cate Blanchett dipped back into Givenchy‘s Fall 2012 Couture offering at the London premiere of Blue Jasmine last month. Her black cape-accented gown also included cold-shoulders and delicate gold embroidery. This year’s Met Gala was all about edge and Cameron Diaz‘s electric blue Stella McCartney caped gown with spiked belt fit in perfectly with the night’s aggressive glamour aesthetic. Stella McCartney was also behind her studded platform sandals.

We’re loving how designers are managing to present capes in various incarnations with some even being appropriate for everyday wear. Will you be rocking this trend in the near future?
