Trendspotting: Out-of-season sheer

Sheer accents on the red carpet are certainly nothing new, but celebs have been opting for a surprising amount of see-through pieces despite the cooler temperatures on the west coast. Once usually reserved for spring and summer, we’ve seen an unprecedented number of sheer-themed pieces just this month, including Jaimie Alexander‘s extreme Azzaro. Since this trend doesn’t appear to be dying down, we thought we would take a look at the variety of ways stars are going sheer.

At the beginning of the month, Nicole Richie showed a bit of skin in Dolce & Gabbana while attending the LACMA 2013 Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles. Her Fall 2007 floor-length beaded gown also featured feather details and was styled with a House of Harlow 1960 clutch. Ashanti didn’t leave much to the imagination a week later at the Soul Train Awards 2013 in Las Vegas. The singer’s sheer embellished V-neck gown by Reeve was capped off with a pair of nude pumps. Jennifer Lawrence arguably experienced the most dramatic exposure last week at the Los Angeles showing of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. This Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture two-tone knitted evening gown even had a black bodysuit and was complemented by black Brian Atwood Tribeca platform sandals.

Jennifer wasn’t the only one revealing herself at the premiere. Bella Thorne made her mark in a nude Blumarine Spring 2014 creation with white floral embroidery accented by a braided updo. Two actresses approached the see-through trend in two different ways at Thursday’s Hollywood Foreign Press Association and InStyle Miss Golden Globe 2014 Party in Los Angeles. Nikki Reed put her legs on display at the celebration in this black Camilla and Marc dress with sheer skirt. Melinda Maria earrings, a gold cuff and a clutch by Tory Burch all served as accessories. Naeem Khan‘s Resort 2014 black silk georgette dress with embroidered sheer raglan sleeves was Malin Akerman‘s polished pick for the event. She rounded out the look with a top knot and Jimmy Choo Lance sandals.

Are you a fan of this somewhat transparent fall trend or do you think these celebs should hold off until the weather warms back up?
