A relative newbie to fashion week, Jen Kao launched her high-end womenswear line in 2007 in New York. Her inspiration comes from a combination of her background (she was born in LA and raised in Kansas City) and her family history (her grandmother taught her the traditional crafts and folklore of the Japanese). Her main focus is on the details of her work, and her pieces are meant to be played with and adjusted depending on the wearer’s mood. Kao’s fall collection consisted of tight pieces and lots of body-con dresses, but her spring 2011 collection went in a different direction: dreamy, flowing dresses, crocheted knits, and tailored blazers.
