Snow Bunnies and Board Barbies Demystified

by Stacy Cox

I have spent my entire life as a resident of Southern California and love it. Love heading to the beach, love the luxury of wearing tees and shorts a good portion of the year, love taking hikes in the Hollywood Hills… So when a friend invited me to Big Bear to take snow boarding lessons two winters ago, I was very reluctant. “Snow? Me? Me and a surf board-looking thingy together on snow? Uh, no!” That was my initial reaction, but once I arrived at the mountain, I 180’ed! A friendly, hip crowd, clean air, gorgeous scenery AND cute, cozy snow apparel, this could work! Some gal skiing past me checked me out and mockingly commented “Board Barbie!” Clearly she was jealous of my killer outfit! I countered back “Yeah, I am, what’s it to ya?!” and the rest is history. I have been an avid snowboarder ever since. The outfits can be really chic but the main goal, of course, is warmth. And even if you don’t board or ski, there’s great day and night life at ski resorts. Thus, you will want to get your “style on” 24/7. Hope to see you on the slopes!

Fun/Warm Looks For Snow Bunnies & Board Barbies

Layer No. 1: Cute plum colored henley and Base Camp tights w/ black scroll design are perfect undergarments

Layer No. 2: Stella McCartney/Addias Winter fleece hoodie and printed Schuss ski pants by Athleta

Layer No. 3: Pick your ski jacket, you have options – the winter sports performance ski jacket OR the pricey, but wow is it stylish, Moncler ski blouson with the awesome stretchy, waist cincher belt

Layer No. 4: These Austrailia Love black leather lace-up boots remind me of something Rhianna would sport in the cold

Layer No. 5: Accessories…The A.ok Mohawk Fringe Knit Cap is fierce and seems Rhianna-inspired too, the Burton Profile snow gloves are perfect for keeping your hands dry and warm and the Michael Stars kint strip scarf adds a nice subtle pop of color.

Looking Like a Snow Bunny Can Be Just As Much Fun As Being One

After a day of skiing or snowboarding (even if you don’t partake in either), it’s fun to hit a ski lodge bar and grab a hot chocolate or cocktail and socialize. Since you don’t need all of the added insulation, it’s a smidge easier to look stylish. Both pairs of leggings are comfortable and are a practical purchase since they can be paired with so many other elements in your wardrobe. Either of the two sweaters are great to layer on next. The Puma vest and the Rossignol Ski Jacket are fun because they are a break from the classic, conventional black puffy jacket. And the cap, boots and gloves add the necessary “flair” to complete this look. Cheers!
