Spring’s most versatile piece: the Western jacket

According to WGSN Group, the world’s leading trend forecaster, the Western jacket is emerging as the season’s runway-to-retail darling. Retailers are stocking up on this in-demand piece after multiple appearances on both the Spring 2014 and Fall 2014 runways.

We don’t need runways and trend forecasters to tell us the many uses for the classic Western jacket (or denim jacket, in its most prevalent form), however. You’ve likely had one in your closet for years to wear with everything from dresses and skirts to jeans and cropped pants. Perfectly bridging the gap between dressy and casual, a Western jacket can help dress down a sequin skirt or a cocktail dress for a look that’s less formal and more everyday. It also works as the perfect layering piece for cool spring days.

Whether you already own one of these must-have pieces and are looking to add one in a different color, material or silhouette, or are looking to purchase your first Western jacket, we pulled together some of our favorites for every budget.
