What To Wear To A Summer Wedding: Black Tie and Black Tie Optional Looks

Figuring out what to wear to a wedding can be stressful, especially when the invite says “creative black tie”, “elegant evening”, “black tie optional”, “beach chic” and more. Over the next few days, we’ll help you crack the wedding dress code with wearable and affordable head-to-toe suggestions.

Invite: Black Tie

Black tie weddings call for your dressiest look. Long dresses are no longer required, what’s more important are luxe fabrics, sparkly accessories and elegant silhouettes. Great news: hosiery is no longer mandatory, so feel free to go bare if you prefer, just be sure your legs are smooth and moisturized. If the ceremony takes place in a church or temple, be sure to bring a wrap to cover your shoulders.

Invite: Black Tie Optional

At a black tie optional affair, men wear tuxedos or dark suits and women wear everything from gowns to dressy cocktail dresses. You still want to dress elegantly, but you have more room to have fun with your look than at a traditional black tie affair. A summer wedding is the perfect time to embrace color and flirty, feminine silhouettes.

I love this! I’m going to a black tie wedding at the beginning of August, so I’m on the lookout for a gorgeous long dress. Do you have any suggestions for shoes to wear for an outdoors ceremony? I would prefer at least some heel, but I’m having difficulty finding wedges that are dressy enough. Thanks!
