Blow Dry 101: Get Straight From The Salon Hair

My hair always looks amazing when I leave the salon – voluminous yet sleek and shiny. It can be difficult to replicate this looks at home, but we’ve got a few tips that will help you do just that.

A good blow dry starts in the shower: use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Once your’re out, leave the room before you dry – the moisture in the air can cause frizz.
Before you start, apply a heat protecting serum to your ends. Then, blow dry your hair for two minutes using only your fingers to comb through.
Once your hair isn’t sopping, divide it into several sections with clips. Dry each section individually with a round or paddle brush, but don’t spend more than 30 seconds on each one at a time. Hold the dryer six inches away from hair (to prevent burning) and point it downward (to prevent friction).
Once your hair is almost completely dry, remove the clips and finish. At the end, blast cool air for a minute to seal the hair cuticle and lock in shine. For a glossy finish, apply shine serum starting at the ends and working your way up.
If necessary, run a flat iron through unruly sections once or twice.
