Celeb Inspired Waves Made Simple

kate-hudson-wavy-hairstyle.jpgWhen it comes to hair, the whole “grass is always greener” adage holds true.  We want what we can’t have.  Bangs vs. no bangs, blonde vs. brunette, long vs. short.  As members of the straight hair club, we’ve always envied the effortless style of perfectly tousled, wavy locks on celebs like Kate Hudson.  Try as we may, no amount of time with curling irons or diffusers have aided us in achieving that look.  The curls were either too perfect or too frizzy or just plain non-existent.

Well, we recently discovered a simple method to recreate this coiff at home that even the most hairstyle challenged can master.  The best part, no heat tools are involved which equals zero damage.  Our overprocessed strands can rejoice.  To master this technique, we refer to the childhood habit of twirling our hair.  All you need are a couple styling products, your hands and some time.

Tools: Wide tooth comb, curling cream and defrizzing serum

Technique:

  1. After washing, towel dry hair and use a wide tooth comb to remove tangles and create your desired part.
  2. Dispense a quarter size dollop of curling cream, emulsify in your hands and rake through hair from roots to ends, concentrating on ends.
  3. Apply a drop of frizz fighting serum to the top layer of hair to control flyaways.
  4. Section hair into quadrants, drawing a line from ear to ear then dividing each section down the middle.
  5. Working from back to front, bottom to top, twirl small sections of hair around your finger, away from your face as though you’re creating small dreadlocks.  Vary the size of each section for a more natural look.
  6. Let hair air dry completely, flip head over and gently shake the twists loose from the root.
  7. Apply another small drop of serum to fight any frizz that may appear.
