Trend Alert: The 66th Annual Golden Globes

So we all know that Kate Winslet was the big winner at the 66th Annual Golden Globes last Sunday. But were you looking at the trends on the red carpet as closely as the winners’ statuettes? In case you didn’t catch them, we’re here to let you in on what really went down on the red carpet.

One-Shoulder Dresses
Why go with two shoulders when you can go with one? Tons of celebs lightened up on their load, sporting dresses that only had one shoulder for added intrigue. While some went with simple designs and colors, others — like Maggie Gyllenhaal, in particular — spiced things up even further with animal prints and bold colors. Here are the best looks.
Maggie Gyllenhaal one-shoulder dress Golden Globes.jpgMaggie Gyllenhaal rocks it in a gorgeous turquoise cheetah print.
Laura Linney Golden Globes.jpgLaura Linney sports a stunning Grecian-inspired frock in a citron hue.
America Ferrera one-shoulder dress Golden Globes.jpgUgly Betty star America Ferrera gets it right in a gorgeous grey frock with intricate pleating and just the right amount of shimmer.
Sandra Bullock Golden Globes.jpgSandra Bullock’s tiered white gown looks so pretty paired with a tiny turquoise clutch.
Amanda Seyfried one-shoulder dress Golden Globes.jpgAmanda Seyfried is every bit the Grecian goddess (so apropos following Mamma Mia, no?) in a shimmery greyish white gown.
Jane Krakowski Golden Globes.jpgFunny lady Jane Krakowski is so utterly elegant in a white dress with plunging V-neckline — one we’d be dying to wear to our wedding someday, if you must know!

Statement Necklaces
There’s always a trend in jewelry, and lots of celebs opted for stunners around their necks this year. Floral themes were popular, as were tons of diamonds and other glittering jewels. Is it any wonder that Beyonce was among the gals to sport this trend? Here are the best looks.
Beyonce Golden Globes.jpgBeyonce’s glittering Lorraine Schwartz bib necklace made her look every part the diva, especially paired with a glamorous updo and shimmering silver gown.
Eva Mendes bold necklace Golden Globes.jpgNever one to disappoint on the red carpet, Eva Mendes went for bold color to offset her white gown, choosing a bib necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels in strikingly bright turquoise.
Christina Applegate bold necklace Golden Globes.jpgA simple updo and bright red lip looked so gorgeous paired with Christina Applegate’s unbelievably large floral necklace. The yellow stones set against glittering diamonds perfectly matched her strapless yellow dress and tiny clutch.
Elizabeth Banks Golden Globes.jpgThe sweetheart neckline of Elizabeth Banks’ dress looks so pretty when paired with an oversized necklace and subtly waved locks.

Neutral Dresses
The best way to stand out against a red carpet? In a neutral hue, of course! And while the celebs who went pale may shock you (Miley in a floor-length gown that doesn’t draw focus?), the choices they made were simply stunning. Here are the best looks.
Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt Golden Globes.jpgAngelina Jolie doesn’t need Brad Pitt on her arm — though it certainly doesn’t hurt! — because her Atelier Versace gown does all the talking.
Miley Cyrus Golden Globes.jpgA stark contrast to the red gown she wore at last year’s Oscars, Miley’s white gown with gold floral leaf detail is age-appropriate and really, really pretty.
Demi Moore Ashton Kutcher Golden Globes.jpgSeriously, does Demi Moore ever leave the house looking anything less than stunning? The intricate neckline, tiered detailing and floor-grazing silhouette just make the actress look unbelievable. And yes, we’re still jealous that she’s with Ashton Kutcher.
Isla Fisher neutral dress Golden Globes.jpgA beautiful foil to her rich auburn locks, Isla Fisher’s golden silk gown is one of our favorites with its many layers of intricate silk pleating.

Bold Colors
Yes, some celebs still opted for attention-grabbing hues like red and fuchsia! It was nice to see some gals celebrating the beginning of awards season with fun, bright hues, especially in this economic climate when everyone is so somber. Here are the best looks.
Christina Applegate bright dress Golden Globes.jpgChristina Applegate again! Sporting a gown in Pantone’s color of the year, mimosa, she looked elegant and every bit the Hollywood starlet.
Frieda Pinto Golden Globes.jpgThe star of breakout hit Slumdog Millionaire, Frieda Pinto, was simply stunning in a strapless ruffled gown with a drop waist and floor-skimming hem.
Elisabeth Moss Golden Globes.jpgRed was the order of the day for Elisabeth Moss, whose tea-length dress was anything but bridesmaid dress-esque. Would you expect anything less for the star of Mad Men?
Kyra Sedgwick Golden Globes.jpgAnother red stunner! Kyra Sedgwick went for a subtly muted cranberry gown by Oscar de la Renta, which just looked so glamorous with its extra-long train.
Rumer Willis Golden Globes.jpgMiss Golden Globe herself, Rumer Willis, opted for a mulberry strapless gown and minimal jewelry, since the black belt around her tiny waist was accented with tons of glittering sparklers.
Cameron Diaz Golden Globes.jpgWhile we’re not a fan of Cameron Diaz’s hair (why did she show up looking like it needed a good wash?), we’re definitely loving the fuchsia gown by Chanel Haute Couture. The one shoulder silhouette and subtle gathers held together by buttons and oversized florettes was one of the most innovative on the red carpet.
Eva Longoria Parker Golden Globes.jpgEva Longoria showed off her shapely curves in a bright Reem Acra strapless gown, looking every bit the glamorous Hollywood star with the long train flowing out behind her.

Black Dresses
Black was anything but simple when seen on these lovely ladies. Some of Hollywood’s best showed up in the classic color, and you know what? It totally worked. Here are the best looks.
Amy Adams Golden Globes.jpgBlack looks gorgeous set against red locks, so Amy Adams opted for an Oscar de la Renta black gown. It was anything but simple with glittering beading sewn throughout.
Kate Winslet black dress Golden Globes.jpgKate Winslet showed why she deserved to win two Golden Globes in a single evening when she showed up wearing this striking Yves Saint Laurent gown and sparkling Chopard jewels.
Evan Rachel Wood black dress Golden Globes.jpg Coutourier to the stars Elie Saab designed this dress seen on Evan Rachel Wood, a vision with layers of ruffles and a plunging neckline.
Mindy Kaling Golden Globes.jpgA simple wrap silhouette shows off Mindy Kaling’s curves, while glittering details at the shoulders add a little something special.
